Indian T20 team captain Suryakumar Yadav is not going through a good phase at the moment.

His bat has seemed silent for quite some time now. Under his captaincy, Team India won the title in the Asia Cup 2025 but Suryakumar himself could not make any major contribution. In such a situation, concerns are being raised about his form before the Australia tour. Now it seems that the impact of his poor form is visible on the domestic circuit as well as Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has dropped Suryakumar Yadav from the squad for their first match in the new Ranji Trophy season.

Surya's leave from Ranji team

Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season is starting from October 15 and all 38 teams will play their first match on this day.

Record 42-time Ranji champion Mumbai has to play its first match in the group stage against Jammu and Kashmir, for which the selection committee of MCA announced a squad of 16 members on Friday, October 10. But Suryakumar Yadav did not get a place in this squad. Surya was a part of the Mumbai team last season but this time he has not been selected.

The reason why the 35-year-old star batsman was not selected has not been clearly stated, but Suryukmar Yadav's current form and the thinking of giving opportunities to new players seem to be the reasons for this decision.

Also, Surya has to leave for Australia tour after 20th. In such a situation, there is also a possibility that he may have been given rest. However, this match is to be played from 15 to 18 October. In such a situation, if Surya had played in this match, he could have got some match practice before going to Australia.

Shardul became the captain of Mumbai

As far as Mumbai squad is concerned, a big change has been seen in the captaincy. Ajinkya Rahane, who was the captain till last season, had decided to leave this responsibility even before the start of this season.

In such a situation, once again experienced all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been made the captain of the team. However, Rahane remains in the team.
