Delhi: The squad for the Indian cricket team’s tour of Australia has been announced, where Sanju Samson has been included in the T20 team, while he has once again been left out of the ODI team. This is not the first time that Samson has been ignored. In the last few years, he was included in the team on several occasions and then dropped.

Scored a century in the last innings in ODI

Samson scored a brilliant century in his last innings in ODI. He scored this century in the match played against South Africa in December 2023. Despite this, the selectors did not include him in the ODI team. However, Sanju has been consistently performing well in T20Is and has cemented his place in the team.

Sanju said on being repeatedly dropped from the team

During a conversation on Sports Cast podcast, Sanju Samson spoke openly about the ups and downs of his career. He said, “My first century came in South Africa. At that time I was in and out of the team. I knew deep down that I was capable of playing at the international level, but until you prove yourself with your performance, no one accepts you.”

Sanju further said, “After that century, I realized that I was made for this level. It was the series decider and I knew that if I did not play well in that match, I would be dropped, so when I scored a century in that difficult time, I told myself, “I can do this and I am made for bigger things.”

From this it is clear that there is no dearth of ability in Sanju Samson, but the question still remains – why is he not being selected in the ODI team despite such an excellent performance?
