Delhi: The third day of the second Test match being played between India and West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium ended in an exciting manner. Team India made a huge score in the first innings by scoring 518/5 (innings declared) and in response, West Indies team was reduced to 248 runs. India gave follow-on to the visiting team with a lead of 270 runs. By the end of the day’s play, West Indies had scored 173 runs for two wickets in the second innings.

Yashasvi and Gill shine in India’s first innings

Captain Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul made a great start to the innings and added 58 runs for the first wicket. Rahul was out after scoring 38 runs, but Yashasvi then made a brilliant partnership of 193 runs with Sai Sudarshan for the second wicket.

Yashasvi scored a century, while Sudarshan was out after scoring 87 runs. On the second day, Yashasvi Jaiswal missed his double century and was run out after scoring 175 runs. At the same time, captain Shubhman Gill played a responsible innings and scored unbeaten 129 runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy (43) and Dhruv Jurel (44) also made important contributions. Team India declared its innings at 518 runs.

Caribbean batsmen trapped in the spin of Jadeja and Kuldeep

The start of West Indies’ first innings was not good. Ravindra Jadeja gave India its first success by dismissing John Campbell (10). After this, Tegnarayan Chanderpaul (34) and Alik Athanaz (41) gave some relief by making a partnership of 66 runs, but Jadeja gave India the lead by sending both of them to the pavilion. He increased the pressure further by dismissing captain Roston Chase for zero.

On the third day, Kuldeep Yadav bowled brilliantly and took four wickets and completed another ‘five wicket haul’ of his Test career. West Indies’ first innings ended at 248 runs, giving India a huge lead of 270 runs and immediately imposed follow-on.

West Indies return with Campbell-Hope partnership

After follow-on, West Indies had a bad start in the second innings as well. The team lost two wickets for just 14 runs, but after that John Campbell and Shai Hope took charge of the team by batting responsibly. Both of them gave life to the match by making an unbroken partnership of 138 runs for the third wicket.

Campbell scored unbeaten 87 runs with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes in 145 balls, while Shai Hope remained unbeaten on 66 runs in 103 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes.

End of third day, India’s position still strong

Till stumps, West Indies have scored 173 runs for two wickets in the second innings. From India’s side, Mohammad Siraj and Washington Sundar achieved one success each. Although West Indies have made a good comeback, they are still 97 runs behind India and the danger of defeat by innings is not over.
