Due to the brilliant bowling of Kuldeep Yadav, India all out West Indies for 248 runs in the first innings, due to which the host team got a huge lead of 270 runs and West Indies had to play follow-on. India had scored 518 runs in the first innings, which included centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal (175 runs) and captain Shubman Gill (129).

This is the first time since 2015, when India gave follow-on to the opposition team despite having a lead of less than 300. The last time India did this against Bangladesh under the leadership of Virat Kohli was in June 2015. Then one day’s play could not be played in Fatullah due to rain.

Kuldeep Yadav took five or more wickets in an innings for the fifth time in Tests, making him the second Chinaman bowler after England’s Jonny Wardley to take five five-wicket hauls in Tests. He left behind Paul Adams of South Africa, who had achieved this feat four times.
