Shastri opened up on the incidents when Virat was ready to punch his own teammates when they made a mistake.
Virat Kohli will return to action with the three-match ODI series against Australia from October 19. The 36-year-old last represented India in the Champions Trophy earlier this year, having retired from Test cricket and T20Is. Former India coach Ravi Shastri has revealed that Kohli would often target his teammates during his captaincy tenure.
Speaking on the LiSTNR Sport podcast, Shastri mentioned that Virat was against poor fitness levels and lazy running between the wickets.
“If you are not a good runner between the wickets, you will soon find out. If you are not able to take a second run or if Virat is looking for a third and you haven’t completed even a second, the message would be to hit the gym and start training to get fit,” Shastri said.
Shastri opened up on the incidents when Virat was ready to punch his own teammates when they made a mistake.
“I had to calm him down. If a wicket falls, he would start jumping, and I would say, Calm down. Let him cross the halfway and don’t meet him 10 yards away from the stumps. He was like a cat on a hot tin roof, ready to punch him,” he added.
Kohli will play under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, who recently replaced Rohit.
