NEW DELHI: Madhya Pradesh skipper Rajat Patidar continued his remarkable purple patch in red-ball cricket, celebrating his maiden First-Class double century in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 clash against Punjab in Indore.
At the close of play on Day 3, Madhya Pradesh posted a commanding 519/8, establishing a strong lead of 287 runs over Punjab’s first-innings total of 232.

Patidar’s previous highest score was 196, but he surpassed that milestone with a flawless, unbeaten knock of 205 runs off 332 balls, featuring 26 crisp boundaries.
The skipper showcased impeccable patience and elegance after walking in early at a slightly tricky position of 155/4. Throughout his long stay, Patidar scored freely against all bowlers.
The captain found excellent support in the middle order. He anchored a crucial partnership with Venkatesh Iyer, who contributed a well-made 73 off 114 balls. Later, the innings received a decisive boost from the late-order hitting of Arshad Khan, who smashed a quickfire 60 runs off just 60 balls to ensure MP maximized their lead.
Punjab’s bowling effort was spearheaded by Prerit Dutta (4 wickets) and captain Naman Dhir (3 wickets).
This spectacular double ton only reinforces Patidar’s incredible run of success over the past few months. The dynamic batsman previously led Madhya Pradesh to the final of the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and emerged as the second-highest run-getter.
Most notably, he led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title. His current form suggests he remains one of the most reliable and prolific run-scorers in Indian domestic cricket.
