Shami said – “Selection is not in my hands”

Mohammed Shami had recently given his reaction on not being selected in the team. He had said, “Selection is not in my hands. If there was a fitness problem, I would not have played for Bengal. I don’t feel the need to create controversy over it. If I can play four-day matches, I can play 50-over cricket as well.” Shami had clearly said that he is completely fit and there is no problem regarding his fitness.

Agarkar replied

Team India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar has reacted to Shami’s statement. At an event, when he was asked a question on this issue, he said, “If Shami says something like this to me, I will definitely respond. I have spoken to him several times in the last few months. If he has said something, I will talk to him.”

Agarkar further said, “If he was fully fit, he would definitely have been in the team for the England tour. The domestic season has just started, we will see whether he is fully fit or not. We wanted to include him for the Australia tour, but he was not fit at that time. If he becomes fully fit in the next two months, the story can change.”

Eyes on fitness, hope of comeback remains intact

Mohammed Shami is still considered an important player for India. Both the team management and the selection committee are keeping an eye on his fitness. If he proves his fitness in the upcoming domestic season, then the path to his comeback in Team India may open once again.
