The three-match ODI series between India and Australia is starting from October 19.
Delhi: The first ODI between India and Australia will be played in Perth, for which former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has selected his probable playing eleven. On his YouTube channel, Irfan has revealed the names of 11 players whom he considers worthy of being given a chance in the first ODI.
Irfan Pathan has handed over the responsibility of opening to Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. He has given place to Virat Kohli at number three, while he has chosen Shreyas Iyer at number four.
Irfan’s choice as a wicketkeeper batsman was KL Rahul. At the same time, as all-rounders, he has included Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akshar Patel in the team. According to Irfan, these two players can provide balance to the team with both bat and ball.
Irfan has chosen Kuldeep Yadav in the spin department. In fast bowling, he has given place to Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Siraj and Harshit Rana. Regarding Harshit Rana, Irfan said, “I think Harshit will play because he is the only fast bowler in this team who can also bat. I hope he will be sent at number eight and it will be a great opportunity for him to prove himself.”
Irfan Pathan believes that this series against Australia will be a great learning opportunity for India’s new captain Shubman Gill. He said, “India will play under the leadership of a new captain. The biggest challenge for Gill will be how he builds rapport with senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. A lot will depend on how much respect the junior players give to the seniors. I am sure Gill respects both of them and it will be interesting to see how he takes the team forward.”
