After choosing to bat first, Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones opened the innings for England while Renuka Singh opened the bowling attack.
England made a decent start with scoring 44 runs in the powerplay. Deepti got the first breakthrough picking the wicket of Beaumont for 22 runs and went on to bag the wicket of Amy Jones for 56 runs.
However, Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt went onto stictch a solid 113 run partnership before Shree Charani dismissed England captain for 38 runs.
On the other hand, Knight went on to slam century and got dismissed before being dismissed on a run out.
After Shree Charani bagged the wicket Sophia Dunkley for 15 runs, Deepti Sharma bagged the wicket of Alice for 2 runs. Charlotte Dean’s 19* runs in the end has helped the side to post 288 runs in their 50 over innings.
Deepti Sharma went on to pick four wickets while Shree Charani completed her spell with 2 wickets.
Speaking at the toss, Nat Sciver-Brunt said, “We would like to have a bat. We would like to make the most of the fresh pitch and hopefully get a big total on the board. I hope so (it is the best batting pitch) and the outfield will be lightning quick, we have to do a lot of work in the field to stop the ball getting away.”
“We have got Sophie Ecclestone and Lauren Bell coming back into the side. They are ready to go and excited to be back. We will be looking for some big partnerships today and work as a team out there.
“We have seen a lot of noise with the Indian fans, hopefully everyones eyes are on the game and ready to be moved in the field. We know we have three tough games left and hopefully we can get two points out of it,” concluded Nat Sciver-Brunt.
Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur said, “We were looking to bowl first and glad to get that. We have one change – Jemi is not playing today and Renuka is playing. Having an extra bowler is always a great option and that will give us confidence in the field.”
“She (Renuka) has a great record against England and that was the biggest reason we wanted her back in the side. Even though we lost, we played really good cricket in between and that is something which will give us confidence. Today is an important match and I want us to enjoy.”
