The contest was historic, as the West Indies became the first ICC full-member nation to bowl an entire innings using only spinners. The spin quintet of Akeal Hosein, Roston Chase, Khary Pierre, Gudakesh Motie, and Alick Athanaze each bowled their full quota of 10 overs, while the team’s lone pacer, Justin Greaves, didn’t bowl a single delivery on the turning Dhaka track.
Bangladesh post 213 after a steady start.
Opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted 213/7. Despite early trouble, Soumya Sarkar (45 off 89) anchored the innings, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz (32*) and Rishad Hossain (39*) added a vital unbeaten 50-run partnership in the final overs. Their late flourish saw Bangladesh collect 82 runs in the last 10 overs.
Among the bowlers, Gudakesh Motie led with 3 wickets for 65 runs, while Athanaze and Hosein picked up two each.
Hope leads Windies' fightback after collapse
Chasing 214, the Windies got off to a shaky start as Brandon King fell for a duck. Alick Athanaze (28) and KC Carty (35) provided some stability, but the middle order collapsed, slipping to 133/7.
Captain Shai Hope anchored the innings with a composed half-century, keeping West Indies in contention. His partnerships with Justin Greaves (26) and later Akeal Hosein brought the side close to the target. With three runs needed off the final ball, the Windies could only manage two, leaving the match tied.
For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain impressed with 3/42, while Tanvir Islam and Nasum Ahmed claimed two wickets each.
The decider now promises to be a gripping finale, with both sides locked at 1-1 in the ODI series.
