The West Indies fell to a crushing defeat in the third and final match of the series in Mirpur against Bangladesh on October 23. The series decider saw the hosts clinch the contest 2–1.
The Men in Maroon were under pressure from the outset. By the 25-over mark, Bangladesh had raced to 176 without loss, thanks to a dominant opening partnership between Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan. Sarkar was unfortunate to miss out on a well-deserved century, falling to Akeal Hosein after a fluent 86-ball knock. Hassan contributed a brisk 80 off 72 deliveries. At the halfway stage, the hosts looked set to post a total well in excess of 300.
However, the Windies managed to pull things back, restricting the Tigers to 296 for eight. Akeal Hosein was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of four for 41. Unfortunately, several dropped catches by the West Indies only added to their woes.To win the match, the Windies needed to chase the highest total of the series and set a new record for a successful run chase against Bangladesh on their home turf. The innings got off to a rocky start with Alick Athanaze falling early after a series of failed attempts to find the boundary, dismissed LBW.
Ackeem Auguste soon followed similarly. When Brandon King lost his wicket, the collapse continued beyond the power play. The West Indies were eventually bowled out for a paltry 117, succumbing to a massive 179-run defeat.More white-ball action is set to come as the Windies look to put this series behind them in a three-match T20I series against the same opposition, beginning on October 27.
