India defeated New Zealand by 53 runs with the help of Duckworth-Lewis rule (DLS) and secured their place in the semi-finals.
Delhi: The Indian team finally found the path to victory after three consecutive defeats. Performing brilliantly in the important match, India defeated New Zealand by 53 runs with the help of Duckworth-Lewis rule (DLS) and confirmed its place in the semi-finals. This match, interrupted by rain, was played in 49 (first innings) and 44 (second innings) overs.
Indian team made a great start after losing the toss and coming to bat first. Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal played tremendous innings and took the team to a strong position. Mandhana played a brilliant century of 109, while Pratika played a brilliant century of 122 runs.
Jemimah Rodrigues also strengthened the innings by adding unbeaten 76 runs. The team scored 340 runs in the stipulated 49 overs, which is India’s highest score in Women’s ODI World Cup history. Earlier, India had scored 330 runs against Australia in Visakhapatnam.
Due to rain, New Zealand got the target of 325 runs in 44 overs. Kiwi team had a bad start while chasing the target. Kranti Gaur gave the first success to India, while Renuka Singh took wickets in two consecutive overs and pushed the opposition team on the backfoot.
Amelia Kerr struggled after scoring 45 runs. After this, Halliday played an inning of 81 runs and Isabelle played an unbeaten inning of 65 runs, but the team could score only 271 runs in 44 overs. Renuka Singh and Kranti Gaur took 2-2 wickets.
Smriti Mandhana made a big record by scoring a century in this match. She has become the joint first female player to score the most centuries in international cricket. Mandhana has equaled Australia’s Meg Lanning’s record of 17 centuries.
Indian team’s opening batsman Smriti Mandhana was chosen player of the match for her excellent performance. He played an inning of 109 runs in 95 balls, which included 10 fours and 4 sixes. Apart from this, the opener also took 3 excellent catches.
