DHAKA: Bangladesh stormed to their first One-day International series victory in over a year, crushing the West Indies by 179 runs in the third and final match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.

Openers Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan set up the win with a dazzling 176-run stand, guiding the hosts to 296 for eight before the bowlers bundled out the visitors for 117 in 30.1 overs to secure the series 2-1.

Sarkar struck 91 off 86 balls and Saif made 80 off 72 as Bangladesh produced their second-highest opening partnership in ODIs and their first century stand at the venue in 10 years.

Roston Chase broke the partnership in the 26th over, having Saif caught at long-on, before Sarkar fell at midwicket nine short of his century. The middle order added brief resistance, with Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy putting on 50 for the third wicket, but West Indies regained some control late on.

Hosein picked up three wickets in an over as Bangladesh’s innings closed at 296, featuring 14 sixes, equalling their record for most in an ODI.

West Indies never threatened in reply. Nasum Ahmed struck in his opening spell, trapping Alick Athanaze and Ackeem Auguste lbw before bowling Brandon King for 18.

Tanvir Islam dismissed captain Shai Hope, and Rishad Hossain cleaned up the lower order as the visitors folded in 30 overs.

The emphatic victory marked Bangladesh’s first series win since March 2024 and their biggest margin over the West Indies in ODIs.
