Following the second ODI, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had issued a statement confirming Reddy’s injury and ongoing recovery. “Nitish Kumar Reddy sustained a left quadriceps injury during the second ODI in Adelaide and was subsequently unavailable for selection for the third ODI. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him on a daily. basis,” the statement read.

During the pre-match press conference in Australia, captain Suryakumar Yadav reassured fans with an encouraging fitness update. “I think he is doing fine. Yesterday he did a bit of running and batted in the nets. Today he wanted to take a break as it was an optional practice, but we came to the ground because we had a team meeting and wanted to stay with the group. He looks good,” Suryakumar said.

Reddy’s comeback is a major uplift for India, who have been troubled by injuries over the last few weeks. Besides Reddy, Shreyas Iyer also got a bump in the last ODI, thus causing more worries about the depth of the squad.

With his versatile skills, Nitish Kumar Reddy becomes the very necessary balanced India T20I team can have, as he can provide both stability in the batting line-up and a few handy overs in the middle by bowling. After the loss against Australia in the ODI series 1-2, India will be looking to make it up to the fans in the shortest format. The five-match T20I series will kick off on Wednesday in Canberra and finish up at The Gabba, Brisbane, on November 8.
