New Zealand vs England, 2nd ODI: The performance of the England team was even worse in the second ODI played in Hamilton. In the first ODI against New Zealand, England lost despite scoring more than 200 runs, but in the second ODI played in Hamilton, they did not even score 200 runs. The entire England team was all out after scoring 175 runs in 36 overs. That means not even 50 overs were played with him. Blair Tickner was responsible for England's poor condition in the second ODI, who has returned to the New Zealand team after 2 years. Blair Tickner had to stay away from cricket due to domestic problems.
In the second ODI, New Zealand won the toss and put England to bat first. This decision of Kiwi captain Mitchell Santner paid off. England got the first blow on the score of just 3 runs. And then the second one within 30 runs. The score board had just crossed the 50-run mark when England's third wicket also fell. These three wickets belonged to his top order, in which the names of Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith and Joe Root were there.
New Zealand bowled so hard that half of their team returned to the pavilion within 100 runs. The remaining ones also could not do much. The condition of England's batting was such that none of its batsmen scored 50 runs on the score board. Only two batsmen, Harry Brook and Jamie Overton, crossed the 30-run mark. Brook scored 34 runs, while Overton played an inning of 42 runs.
Although all the bowlers of New Zealand lashed their balls at England, but the one whose speed hurt England the most was Blair Tickner. Through this match, Tickner has returned to international cricket after 2 years. He played his last ODI on 5 May 2023. And, now he had made a comeback after 907 days.
The reason for Blair Tickner's stay away from cricket was his family problems. In 2023, his father's house was destroyed by Hurricane Gabriella. A year later, when he was playing county for Derbyshire in England, his wife Sarah called him and gave him the sad news of being diagnosed with cancer. Due to these news, Tickner left Hill and distanced himself from international cricket to counter it.
By resting Matt Henry, New Zealand gave Blair Tickner a chance in the second ODI, which he capitalized on well.
