England and South Africa lock horns in the first semifinal of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, taking place at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday.
This will be the third semifinal meeting between the two sides, with the odds firmly in favour of Nat Sciver-Brunt’s England.
Of the four semifinals England has contested in Women’s ODI World Cups, its only two wins — in 2017 and 2022 — came against South Africa. The English women went on to lift their fourth World Cup title in 2017.
The Proteas, on the other hand, are still chasing their maiden final appearance, having fallen short in all three of their previous semifinal outings. Their 10-wicket drubbing at the hands of England earlier in the tournament will also be a lingering memory.
