Having claimed a 14-run win in the second T20I against Bangladesh at Chattogram, the West Indies clinched the three-match T20I series. Led by fifties from Shai Hope and Alick Athanaze, the West Indies posted 149 before successfully defending the total.
Opting to bat first, the West Indies suffered an early jolt as Brandon King was out spooning a catch to mid-on in the second over. It was then followed by a superb 105-run stand between Hope and Athanaze, with the latter being offered an early reprieve by Towhid Hrido, who put down a tough catch at mid-on in the third over. The Windies pair struck regular boundaries and took their side to 50/1 at the end of the PowerPlay.
They showed no signs of slowing down thereafter,e r eit, as the partnership blossomed. Athanaze was particularly stern against the spinners as he struck two sixes off Rishad Hossain and another one off Nasum Ahmed to bring up his second T20I fifty. Meanwhile, his partner Hope brought up his own fifty in the following over.
Nasum Ahmed, however, struck back by removing both the well-set Athanaze and Sherfane Rutherford off successive deliveries in the 12th over. The visitors suffered another big setback in the very next over after Hope was dismissed in the following over. They suffered a spectacular collapse, losing two more wickets in the 15th over to slip from 106/1 to 118/6. Bangladesh tightened their grip on the contest by restricting the boundaries, and the West Indies' innings closed out on a whimper as they lost three wickets in the final over.
In reply, Bangladesh started cautiously and were offered an early reprieve after a chance offered by Saif Hassan was not taken by King in the second over. His stay at the crease remained brief, though, as he was dismissed by Jason Holder in the fourth over. Litton Das, who then arrived at the crease, started positively by striking three fours off Jayden Seales. In a theme that would continue, the West Indies squandered another chance when Rutherford put Litton down in the sixth over.
After just being struck for six, Akeal Hosein dismissed Litton. A third catch went down in the 11th over when Seales dropped Hridoy. Me,anwhile Tanzid Hasan Tamim progressed steadily, striking occasional boundaries and rotating the strike. While the Windies got rid of Hridoy in the 13th over, a fourth catch was dropped - this time by Athanaze in the 14th.
Bangladesh were in the contest at 100/3 at the end of 15 overs, but two quiet overs added to the pressure. It culminated in the well-set Tanzid Hasan (61) and Jaker Ali both falling in the 18th over as Bangladesh's chase faltered. They lost their way further when Shamim Hossain fell in the 19th, and when 21 runs were required off the final over, they lost two further wickets while managing just six runs.
Brief Scores: West Indies 149/9 in 20 overs (Shai Hope 55, Alick Athanaze 52; Mustafizur Rahman 3-21) beat Bangladesh 135/8 in 20 overs (Tanzid Hasan Tamim 61, Litton Das 23; Akeal Hosein 3-22, Romario Shepherd 3-29) by 14 runs.
