Shreyas Iyer discharged from hospital in Sydney

Shreyas Iyer is recovering from a spleen injury and has been discharged from the hospital in Sydney, the BCCI confirmed on Saturday, November 1. The right-handed batter was being treated for a laceration on his spleen, and he will remain in Sydney for another round of consultations before returning to Mumbai once he is declared fit to fly.

The Indian Cricket Board thanked Dr Kouroush Haghigi and his team, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring the player received good medical treatment. The apex body of the Indian cricket team also confirmed that Iyer underwent a minor surgical procedure.

“Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure. He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same,” the BCCI said in an official statement.

“He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his progress, and he has been discharged from the hospital today,” the statement added.

The board appreciated the efforts of the doctors and the staff involved in Iyer’s treatment.

“The BCCI extends its heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best possible care for his injury.”

How did Shreyas Iyer get injured?

Iyer suffered the injury during the third and final ODI against Australia after taking Alex Carey’s catch. Iyer landed on his left side and was in a lot of pain. He was taken to the dressing room but was admitted to a hospital after he fainted and a fluctuation was noted in his vital parameters. Iyer was moved to the ICU to avoid the spread of infection to other parts of the body.
