India and South Africa will face each other in the final of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 on Sunday at the D.Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The tournament has been heavily affected by rain — including India’s semifinal clash against at Australia the same venue a few days ago which was interrupted by showers. With rain forecast in Navi Mumbai on matchday, here’s a look at the playing conditions and regulations that will come into effect if rain disrupts the final:

Is there a reserve day for India vs South Africa Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 final?

According to section 13.6 of the ICC’s Playing Conditions for this tournament, “The semifinals and final shall have a reserve day allocated on which an incomplete match shall be continued from the scheduled day. No other matches shall have a reserve day allocated.”

When will the final be moved to the reserve day?

The playing conditions state: “If the reserve day is allocated, every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day, with any necessary reduction in overs taking place, and only if the minimum number of overs necessary to constitute a match cannot be bowled on the scheduled day will the match be completed on the reserve day.

So, if both teams complete 20 overs, the requirement to denote a game in ODIs, the result will be based on a DLS-par score. In such cases, a reserve day will not come into use.

“If the match has started on the scheduled day and overs are subsequently reduced following an interruption, but no further play is possible, the match will resume on the reserve day at the point where the last ball was played.”

What if the reserve day also gets washed out?

The playing conditions say, “…if the match is abandoned or a no result at the end of the reserve day, the teams shall be declared joint winners.”
