Former international stars Varun Aaron and Aaron Finch heaped praise on Washington Sundar’s explosive batting display during the third T20I between India and Australia. Sundar’s unbeaten 49 off just 23 balls powered India to a convincing win, as they chased down 187 in 18.3 overs to level the series.

Aaron commended Sundar’s fearless approach against short-pitched deliveries and noted how his aggressive intent from the start shifted the momentum in India’s favour. “Washington has demonstrated his effectiveness with the bat, especially against short-pitched deliveries, as we saw in the previous IPL. His first five boundaries off fast bowlers came from short balls, showing how well he thrives on them. Australia likely underestimated his ability to play the short ball, and his early six off Nathan Ellis set the tone perfectly. Though he didn’t bowl in this match, his contribution with the bat was crucial,” Aaron said on JioHotstar’s Cricket Live.

Meanwhile, Aaron Finch highlighted how Sundar’s arrival at the crease eased the pressure on Tilak Varma, allowing India to keep up with the required rate. “Washington was outstanding and delivered exactly what India needed at that moment. His presence took the pressure off Tilak Varma, which is vital in T20 cricket. He played confidently on both sides of the wicket and handled short-pitched deliveries beautifully. It was an excellent innings from a top performer,” Finch added.

India chased the target with nine balls to spare, thanks to Sundar’s late fireworks and steady contributions from the top order. Arshdeep Singh (3/35 in 4 overs) was named Player of the Match for his early breakthroughs, while Varun Chakravarthy and Shivam Dube chipped in with key wickets. The remaining two matches of the series will be played in Carrara and Brisbane on November 6 and 8, respectively. The first T20I was washed out, and Australia had won the second by four wickets.
