The BCCI will reward the Indian women’s cricket team with Rs 51 crore for winning the ODI World Cup, secretary Devajit Saikia announced on Monday.
The Indian women’s team under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership beat South Africa by 52 runs in the final on Sunday to win its first ever global trophy.
“As a token of appreciation, the BCCI will reward the Indian women’s cricket team with a cash award of Rs 51 crore for winning the World Cup. It includes all the players, support staff and the national selection committee,” Saikia told PTI on Monday.
Apart from the aforementioned amount, India will also receive USD 4.48 million (almost Rs 40. crore) from ICC, a huge bump up from the USD 1.32 million (almost Rs. 12 crore) Australia received three years ago.
South Africa, the runner-up, will receive USD 2.24 million (almost Rs. 20 crore), while the losing semifinalists will each collect USD 1.12 million (almost Rs. 10 crore) — a significant jump from USD 300,000 (almost Rs. 2.7 crore) in 2022.
The tournament featured total prize money of USD 13.88 million (Rs. 123 crore) — nearly four times the USD 3.5 million (Rs. 31 crore) on offer at the previous edition in New Zealand in 2022. Remarkably, the figure surpasses the USD 10 million (almost Rs. 89 crore) prize pool of the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
