Surat-based industrialist and Rajya Sabha member Govind Dholakia has announced a special reward for the Indian women’s cricket team after their historic World Cup triumph over South Africa. Before the final on Sunday, in his letter to BCCI honorary vice president Rajeev Shukla, he expressed his wish to award each member of the championship-winning squad with “handcrafted natural diamond jewellery” as a “token of appreciation for their brilliance and resilience.”
Known for his philanthropic initiatives, Dholakia also announced plans to gift rooftop solar panels to each player’s home. He wrote that the gesture symbolizes the hope that “the light they bring to our nation continues to shine sustainably in their lives too.”
“To celebrate their extraordinary journey, we at Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK) would be honored to present each member of the champion Indian team with handcrafted natural diamond jewelery – a token of appreciation for their brilliance and resilience,” Dholakia’s letter stated.
“Along with this, we would also like to gift rooftop solar panels for their homes, so that the light they bring to our nation continues to shine in their own lives as well,” it added.
Dholakia praised the Indian team under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur for winning over the hearts of a billion Indians through their bravery, discipline, and grit. According to him, the move epitomizes SRK’s view that “real success has to benefit both people and the planet.”
The Indian women made a historic moment as they clinched the World Cup for the first time ever on Sunday after beating South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
