It is expected that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the Indian women’s cricket team, World Cup winners, in New Delhi later this week. The women’s team led by Harmanpreet Kaur, is said to be coming to Delhi on Wednesday, November 5, for an interaction with the Prime Minister, according to the sources.

The Indian women’s cricket team made history by winning against South Africa in the final of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2. On the same night, PM Modi tweeted his delight and pride calling the victory a “landmark moment for women’s sports in India.”

PM Modi Lauds “Exceptional Teamwork and Tenacity”

“A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence,” Modi wrote. “The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports,” he added.

India’s long wait for an ICC title finally came to an end as Harmanpreet’s team lifted the trophy after a commanding 52-run victory over South Africa. Shafali Verma was the standout performer, scoring a brilliant 87 runs and taking two crucial wickets, earning the Player of the Match award for her all-round brilliance.

The victory drew admiration from across the political spectrum. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla congratulated the team, saying they had “won hearts across the nation” with their performance and spirit. The celebrations continued late into the night in Mumbai, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sharing glimpses of the team’s victory party and a new anthem sung by the players and support staff — a fitting finale to a historic day for Indian cricket.
