Overview:

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has taken a big decision regarding fast bowler Mohammed Shami and has rejected all offers to trade or release him. Shami’s performance in the last IPL season was poor (economy rate 11.23), but considering his excellent red ball form in the Ranji Trophy (12 wickets in two matches), the franchise wants to retain him in the team.

Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has reportedly refused to release their experienced Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami. Shami was not in his best form in the last Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini-auction. However, Shami, who was bought for Rs 10 crore in the mega auction, has been in good form in recent times and has proved his fitness to the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee with his impressive performances in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, SRH had received a few trade offers for the Bengal fast bowler, but the franchise has rejected all of them. Also, they are not ready to release them.

Disappointing performance in IPL season

Last season, Shami was able to take only 6 wickets in 9 matches and his average was 56.16. His economy rate was also as high as 11.23 runs per over. The last time Shami had an economy rate in double digits in a season was when he played for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2018 season. Also, this was the first time since 2018 that he was not able to take wickets in double digits.

Great comeback in Ranji Trophy

Shami is in great form in red ball cricket. He took five wickets in the win against Gujarat. He took three wickets in the first innings of the same match. In Bengal’s first match of the campaign, he took seven wickets in Bengal’s eight-wicket victory at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It is also reported that recently appointed selector and former fast bowler RP Singh had a long conversation with him on the sideline. It remains to be seen whether he is able to make a place in the team for the two-Test series against South Africa starting on November 14.

Ishan Kishan likely to be traded

Earlier, there were reports that SRH may release their wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan. He was bought in the mega auction for Rs 11.25 crore. Times of India (TOI) had reported that his former franchises Mumbai Indians (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are interested in the services of the 27-year-old. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
