Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, Lucknow Super Giants have decided to change their strategic direction. According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, the franchise is going to make Australian veteran coach Tom Moody as the Global Director of Cricket of its team. Moody will oversee all of RPSG Group’s cricket franchises, including IPL’s LSG and SA20’s Durban Super Giants and Manchester Originals in ‘The Hundred’.

Tom Moody’s experience has been wonderful. He has worked with many teams as a coach and director for the last two decades. Recently he led Oval Invincibles to their third consecutive ‘The Hundred’ title. Earlier, Moody had led Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL trophy in 2016. He was the coach of SRH from 2013 to 2019 and then became the team’s Director of Cricket in 2021.

Moody’s career as a player has also been quite brilliant. While playing for Australia, he played an important role in winning the ODI World Cup twice in 1987 and 1999. Apart from this, he was also the head coach of the Sri Lankan team from 2005 to 2007, and during his tenure Sri Lanka reached the final of the 2007 World Cup.

Talking about LSG, in its first two seasons (2022 and 2023), the team consistently made it to the playoffs, but the performance declined in the last two seasons. In 2025, Lucknow team could win only 6 out of 14 matches and stood seventh. The team had won only two out of seven matches at home ground Ekana Stadium.

Now the arrival of Tom Moody is expected to add new energy and experience to the team’s strategy and cricket operations, allowing LSG to once again return to the playoffs and title race in the coming season.
