Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his first Ranji Trophy half-century with a very aggressive display against Meghalaya. The 14-year-old hit a blazing 93 off only 67 balls, thus he was just a whisker away from the youngest centurion in the tournament’s history, and the record of Dhruve Pandove has been kept for another 38 years.
The batsman exhibited every aspect of his batting. Suryavanshi went to a half-century in only 33 balls. His power-hitting was relentless as he fetched nine fours and four sixes; thus, his strike rate was 138.81 throughout. His innings was the only bright spot for Bihar as the rest of the batting lineup and bowlers failed to impress.
The young player initially had a poor start to the season, making only 14 runs in the first game; however, this inning will probably be a huge confidence booster for him in the rest of the tournament.
The match was a draw after the teams batted through 166 overs with Meghalaya declaring at 408. A brilliant hundred by Ajay Duhan was the mainstay of the Meghalaya innings. Suryavanshi helped his side with the ball as well, bowling five overs. Bihar now have eight points after a big win in their opening match of the season.
Taking the responsibility as the deputy captain, Suryavanshi’s power-packed knock has definitely put him in the list of the next bright talents of Indian domestic cricket.
