Delhi: Bangladesh women’s cricket team’s fast bowler Jahanara Alam has created a sensation by making serious allegations against the team’s current captain Nigar Sultana Joti and the National Cricket Board (BCB). Alam, who is out of the team, has claimed that captain Jyoti misbehaves with the junior players and beats them.

‘Jyoti slaps juniors’ – Jahanara Alam

In an interview given to Bangladeshi newspaper ‘Kaler Kantho’, Jahanara told that during the Women’s ODI World Cup held in India and Sri Lanka, many junior players had complained to her. He said, “This is not a new thing. Jyoti beats the juniors a lot. Even during the World Cup, the juniors told me that they will not make the same mistake again, because they may have to get slapped again. Some players told that ‘I was beaten yesterday.’ Even during his visit to Dubai, he called a junior into his room and slapped him.”

Took two months leave due to mental health

32-year-old Alam said that the environment inside the team has become very toxic in the last few years, due to which his mental health has been affected. For this reason, he took a break of two months while playing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the 2024 T20 World Cup. He has not played any match for Bangladesh after the series against Ireland in December last year. Alam has so far taken 48 wickets in 52 ODIs and 60 wickets in 83 T20I matches for Bangladesh.

BCB called the allegations baseless and malicious

Bangladesh Cricket Board has immediately reacted to Jahanara’s allegations. The board issued a statement saying, “BCB clearly and strongly denies these allegations. These claims are baseless, fabricated and far from the truth.”

The board further said, “It is unfortunate that such derogatory and condemnable allegations have been made at a time when the Bangladesh women’s team is performing excellently at the international level and showing solidarity.”

BCB said that it is disappointing that such comments have been made by a player who is not currently part of the board’s plans.
