Chennai Super had lost two consecutive matches against Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2024. Their season could have gone wayward had they lost the contest with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
However, the defending champions played a perfect game against the Pat Cummins-led team and registered a 78-run victory while defending 212. Tushar Deshpande’s four wickets restricted the visitors to 134 runs.
Former India player Navjot Singh Sidhu said that MS Dhoni and other CSK players were hurt and wanted to rebound from the two big defeats against Lucknow.
“MS Dhoni was hurt, and other players were unhappy with their performance against the Lucknow Super Giants. They failed to defend a big total at home, with Marcus Stoinis hitting a sensational hundred.
“You don’t see that kind of a performance from CSK. They were determined to return to winning ways and Dhoni took the matter in his own hands. His field placements resulted in the dismissals of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. He told the bowlers to keep the ball wide of the off-stump. The two dangerous batters were forced to try something different and paid the price,” Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Star Sports.
Chennai have won five matches and are third in the points table.
