India’s Women’s ODI World Cup winner Shafali Verma has been named captain of the North Zone team for the Senior Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy, which begins in Nagaland on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old, who was named Player of the Final for her all-round performance, 87 runs with the bat and 2 for 36 with the ball, in India’s 52-run win over South Africa on Sunday, was drafted into the national squad from the semifinal stage to replace the injured Pratika Rawal.

Six teams will compete in the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy, to be held from November 4 to 14. The BCCI’s zonal selection committees have named their respective squads for the tournament.
