India lost the ODI series 1-2 against Australia. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma returned to international cricket after a long time, and Shubman Gill was leading the fifty-over side for the first time. Rohit was named the Player of the Series award while Kohli scored a fifty in the third and final contest at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
While head coach Gautam Gambhir didn’t name the two legends, he made a big comment: “Good performances in a losing cause should not be celebrated,” he said.
In his interviews with the BCCI.TV, Gambhir said that he feels happy to see individuals performing for the team, but it is important to look at the bigger picture.

“It is not about the individual performances. I can be happy with them, but ultimately, we lost the ODI series. I can never celebrate a series loss as a coach,” he added.
Rohit and Kohli have retired from Test cricket and T20Is. “I can appreciate players, but as a coach, it is my responsibility not to celebrate a defeat.”
India won the T20I series by a margin of 2-1. “We are representing the country. The T20 series was different, and we emerged as winners. There were positives as well as learnings.”
