NEW DELHI: Security across Kolkata has been significantly reinforced ahead of the first India-South Africa Test, following Monday’s deadly car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort that claimed at least nine lives and injured over twenty people.

Authorities have implemented a comprehensive security plan to ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators.

City-wide security measures confirmed

Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma confirmed that special measures have been rolled out across the city, focusing on key zones including Eden Gardens, which will host the opening Test from Friday.

“We are on high alert. Keeping in mind the blast in Delhi, special and additional security arrangements are being made,” a police official told IANS. The Special Task Force (STF) will also be deployed alongside the local police to strengthen security presence.

Security at the stadium

Police sources at Lalbazar, the city’s headquarters, revealed that a three-tier cordon has been established at Eden Gardens covering the outer perimeter, entry points, and spectator areas. All movements within and around the stadium will be closely monitored.

Entry checks have been intensified, with metal detectors and handheld scanners in use. Plainclothes officers will be stationed both inside and outside the stadium to quickly respond to any suspicious activity. Spectators will not be allowed to carry bags or prohibited items into the venue.

Earlier today, security arrangements were also stepped up at Arun Jaitley Stadium for the final day of the Ranji Trophy clash between Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir.

A high alert has been issued, with additional police personnel deployed outside the stadium premises to safeguard players and spectators, reflecting the heightened vigilance across sporting venues following the Delhi blast.
