Greater Noida's Buddh International Circuit (BIC) is once again on its way to becoming the center of global motorsports. A company organizing Formula 1 race has contacted the officials of Yamuna Development Authority. If an agreement is reached between the two parties, motorsports in India can reach new heights. The last time F-1 race was organized at Buddh International Circuit was in 2013. After this this circuit was out of the calendar of F-1.
In the last few days, BIC has started attracting attention at the international level. Four days ago, the Japanese delegation visited the circuit and expressed its desire to organize Japan's prestigious Super Formula race here. This race may be held for the first time in India in 2027. Super Formula is considered to be the fastest open-wheel racing series in Asia and the second fastest in the world after Formula 1. In this the cars reach a speed of more than 300 kilometers per hour. Real-time driver data is available to fans during races, resulting in a global fanbase of over 50,000.
The history of BIC itself is witness to the fact that it is fully capable of international racing. The Indian Grand Prix was successfully organized here for three consecutive years from 2011 to 2013. The first race took place on 30 October 2011, in which Germany's Sebastian Vettel became the winner. This was the first Formula-1 race held in South Asia. However, this event was discontinued after 2013 due to tax and regulatory issues.
However, the spectacular event of Moto GP in 2023 once again proved the potential of the circuit and opened the doors for the return of Formula 1. But this thrill of racing bikes also cooled down in a year, whereas there was a seven-year contract with the state government for organizing it.
