The England team will start its Ashes campaign from November 21 at the Perth Stadium, where the team will aim to win the series in Australia after 14 years.
Delhi: England’s assistant coach and former opening batsman Marcus Trescothick has said that his team is excited to play on the fast and bouncy pitches of Australia in the upcoming Ashes series. England have not won a Test series in Australia since 2010–11, but Trescothick is confident the conditions there will suit his team’s attacking style.
Trescothick said, “Our style of play is to put pressure on the bowlers. On Australian pitches the ball comes to the bat well, which suits our batting style. We always look for such conditions, because it gives us a chance to show our natural game.”
He also admitted that Australian pitches have changed in the last few years, but they still help the bowlers. “Australia’s pitches have changed a bit in recent years, but you still expect them to be fast and bouncy, and a little more helpful to the bowlers than before,” Trescothick said.
Trescothick also expressed confidence in England’s legendary batsman Joe Root. He said that Root, who has not yet scored a Test century in Australia, will perform brilliantly this time. According to the assistant coach, under the leadership of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, Root has taken his game to new heights.
He said, “The way Joe has shaped himself over the last few years, it is clear that he is full of confidence in his game. Over the last three seasons, we have seen Root take his game to the next level under the leadership of Stokes and McCullum, and that is why he remains at the top of the world rankings even today.”
