Ace Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharmahas commented on how life has changed for her as well as women's cricket in India after the team's recent Women's World Cup triumph. Deepti won the Player of the Tournament award for her all-round performance.

Deepti spoke on how people recognise her whenever she steps out unlike the earlier times. She also mentioned that she feels happy and proud as people have recognised her contributions to the team. 

“When it actually happened, it felt like a dream to me. But once it really sank in, when I got home and people started talking about it, it finally felt real.

Earlier, I could walk around freely, go to malls and places without much notice. But now, it’s become difficult, you can’t just step out easily. Even with a mask on, people recognise me, which says a lot about how much women’s cricket has grown after the World Cup. It feels really good and it’s a proud moment when people know you and appreciate your work," stated Deepti in a conversation with Sports Today.

She also listed down the changes in women's cricket after the title triumph. Deepti also credited the Women's Premier League for the opportunities it has created.

“There will definitely be a lot of positive changes after this World Cup. Everyone had been waiting for this trophy, India had won everything else, but not the ICC title. Now that we’ve finally won it, women’s cricket is only going to grow further. Matches are being televised more often and the number of games in our calendar year has increased. Even Tests are happening now. The WPL has also played a big role in shaping players’ careers.

I truly believe this win will inspire many more girls to take up cricket," she added.

With 215 runs and 22 wickets, Deepti became the first woman cricketer to score 200-plus runs and pick up 20-plus wickets in a single edition of the World Cup. She struck at 90.33 and maintained an economy rate of 5.52.

India won their maiden Women's World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final of the mega event in Mumbai on November 2. Shafali Varma bagged the Player of the Match for her 87 off 78 and 2/36 in seven overs.
