West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford was traded to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans ahead of next year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Rutherford was acquired by the Titans for Rs. 2.6 crore, and moves to Mumbai Indians for his existing fee. The left-handed batter played 13 matches for Gujarat Titans this year, scoring 291 runs at an impressive strike rate of 157.29. The 27-year-old has previously represented Delhi Capitals (2019) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2022) in the IPL.

He was part of the Mumbai Indians squad in 2020 and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024, but didn’t feature in the playing XI in those seasons.

Rutherford has played 44 T20Is for West Indies, scoring 588 runs at a strike rate of 137.38. He has also picked two wickets in T20Is with his right-arm medium pace bowling, though he isn’t a regular with the ball.

Rutherford is the second player that has been traded to five-time champion Mumbai Indians ahead of next season. Earlier on Thursday, the franchise had announced the signing of India all-rounder Shardul Thakur.
