The West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford will be representing the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026 season after a successful trade from the Gujarat Titans.

Joining the Gujarat Titans for a salary of INR 2.6 crore, he will be moving to the Mumbai Indians at his existing fee.

Having played 44 T20Is for West Indies, holds the record for the sixth highest wicket taker in T20Is, and also stitched a 139-run partnership with Andre Russell against Australia in Perth.

Sherfane Rutherford has played 23 IPL matches so far, having represented Delhi Capitals in 2019 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2022. He has featured for the Mumbai Indians in 2020 and also played for KKR in 2024.

The Gujarat Titans are set to make some crucial changes in the middle order after a mixed 2025 campaign. Despite reaching the playoffs for the third time in four years, their batting lineup leaned heavily on the top order.

All Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler have crossed 500 runs; the rest of the order struggled to find consistency.

Sherfane Rutherford’s trade comes after Shardul Thakur traded to the Mumbai Indians from Lucknow Super Giants. In return, LSG got Arjun Tendulkar, who had only limited chances during the previous edition of the tournament.

“Lucknow Super Giants all-rounder, Shardul Thakur, is all set to represent the Mumbai Indians, following a trade between the two franchises. The Mumbai-based all-rounder was picked up by the Lucknow Super Giants for INR 2 crore as an injury replacement for the 18th edition of the league, wherein he featured in 10 games,” added Shardul Thakur.

“Shardul has been a utility player for the franchises he has represented, putting in clutch performances time and again. The all-rounder has been traded to the Mumbai Indians for his existing player fee of INR 2 crore,” said an IPL statement.

Apart from this, Chennai and Rajasthan have been involved in talks for a deal that would trade Sanju Samson in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.

With the deadline for the retention announcement near, it will be interesting to see who the players are set to be retained and released ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.
