Indian cricketer Deepti Sharma received a grand welcome in her hometown Agra on Thursday, featuring a 10-kilometer roadshow celebrating her pivotal role in India's first Women's World Cup victory, where she was named player of the tournament.

The District Cricket Association organized the celebratory roadshow, which drew thousands of Agra residents to the streets.

The event saw participation from school children, cricket fans, dignitaries, and various social and sports organizations, who celebrated by waving flags and throwing flowers along the route.

The local authorities deployed more than 150 police and traffic personnel to maintain order during the celebrations.

"It feels like a dream come true. I still can't sink it in, after so many years of heartbreak, I've finally returned home to Agra with the World Cup. I could never have imagined such a roadshow happening for me or any other player," Deepti said.

"If we continue to work hard like this, we'll keep winning more trophies. Seeing all the kids here makes me feel that I've been able to inspire them," she added while addressing the gathering.
