India all-rounder Shardul Thakur has joined Mumbai Indians ahead of the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the franchise announced on Thursday.
Thakur, who played for Lucknow Super Giants last season, was traded to Mumbai Indians for his existing player fee of Rs. 2 crore.
The 34-year-old, who was picked up by the Super Giants as an injury replacement for the 2025 edition of the IPL, played 10 matches for the franchise this year. He picked 13 wickets at an economy rate of 11.02, and scored 18 runs in five innings while batting in the lower order.
Mumbai Indians will be the seventh different team Thakur will represent in the IPL, having played for Punjab Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants.
Thakur has been out of national reckoning in white-ball cricket since October 2023, when he featured in an ODI World Cup match against Bangladesh in Pune. His last T20I match for India was back in February 2022, against West Indies at the Eden Gardens.
He featured in two Tests earlier this year in England, but was dropped for India’s subsequent red-ball assignments, against West Indies and South Africa.
