Mandi city of Himachal Pradesh is called ‘Chhoti Kashi’ because of its spiritual identity. Once again became a witness to a sensational incident. In this city which was considered peaceful, such a scene came to light on Saturday evening which shocked everyone. A husband not only threw acid on his wife, but also pushed her down from the terrace and brought her to the brink of death. This incident has not only raised questions on the security system of the city, but has also shown how domestic discord can turn fatal. According to the neighbors, the dispute between the husband and wife had been increasing for some time, but no one had thought that it would take such a dangerous turn.
Pushed from the roof after throwing acid
Late Saturday evening, husband Nandlal threw acid on his wife and pushed her down from the terrace in San Mohalla of Palace-2 ward of Mandi Municipal Corporation. The woman got seriously burnt due to the strong effect of acid and her condition worsened after falling down. Immediately after the incident, there was chaos in the area and the local people called the police.
Local people immediately took the injured woman to Zonal Hospital Mandi. After first aid there, the doctors told that she was burnt to the extent of 50 percent. Seeing his condition, he was referred to AIIMS Bilaspur in the night itself. Both the victim and the accused are originally residents of Dharampur area and were living in Mandi for a long time. The woman works in a shop, while Nandlal has his own shop. He also has two children, a son and a daughter.
Investigation revealed that there was a dispute going on between the husband and wife for a long time and the matter was pending in the court. There was a dispute between the two on Friday also, the video of which went viral on social media. On Saturday, the matter escalated again and in anger Nandlal threw acid on his wife present in the house. Even after getting burnt by the acid, he did not stop there and pushed the woman down from the terrace.
After committing the incident, the accused did not run away from the spot, but went and hid in the upper floor of his own house. When the police reached the spot, he had locked the door from inside. After a lot of effort, the police had to break the door and go inside. The police arrested him from there.
During initial interrogation after his arrest, Nandlal claimed that acid was already kept in the house and was used to clean utensils. Police are now trying to find out why and in what quantity acid was kept in the house. ASP Abhimanyu Verma said that the matter is very serious and the entire background of the accused is being investigated.
It is worrying to see such incidents happening continuously in a peaceful and religious city like Mandi. Local people say that due to lack of timely intervention in cases of domestic violence, situations often turn dangerous. This incident once again reminds us how fatal it can be to ignore domestic disputes because sometimes the home itself becomes the most unsafe place.
