The Guwahati surface is likely to favour the fast bowlers. India may look to add another pacer, giving Akash Deep a chance in place of Kuldeep Yadav.
South Africa put in a dominant performance in the first Test at Eden Gardens, defending 123 to clinch a 30-run win. The pitch, which turned sharply, provided plenty of assistance to the Proteas’ bowlers. This win guarantees South Africa can’t lose the series, leaving India with the task of winning the second Test to level the assignment and stay in contention for the WTC final. The second Test of the series is set to take place from November 22 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
Shubman Gill is battling a neck spasm, leaving his availability for the second Test in doubt. There’s still time for him to recover, but India are unlikely to take any chances. If he’s not fit, Sai Sudharsan may step in.
The Guwahati surface is likely to favour the fast bowlers. India may look to add another pacer, giving Akash Deep a chance in place of Kuldeep Yadav. As Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja are solid batting options, it’s the left-arm wrist spinner who could miss out.
If Shubman Gill is unavailable, India’s batting order will undergo a reshuffle. Washington Sundar, who batted at No. 3 in Eden Gardens, is likely to move up to No. 4 in Gill’s absence, with Sai Sudharsan stepping in at No. 3.
India’s Probable XI For 2nd Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.
