Delhi: After coming to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), many people were considering Sanju Samson as the new captain of the team. But, ending these speculations, CSK made it clear that Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue to captain the team. On Saturday, CSK had included Sanju in the team by trading Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.
Samson was the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR) since 2021 and after his arrival, it was believed that he would be in the race for captaincy in CSK as well.
Ruturaj will remain the captain of CSK
Ruturaj Gaikwad is the captain of CSK from 2024. He took this responsibility from MS Dhoni. Ruturaj got injured in the last season, so Dhoni took over the captaincy again. On Saturday, CSK posted Gaikwad’s picture on social media and wrote, “Lead the way, Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.”
Ruturaj was bought by CSK in the 2019 auction for Rs 20 lakh. Before 2022, he was retained for Rs 6 crores. He has scored 2502 runs in 71 matches for Chennai. His strike rate is 137.47 and he has scored two centuries and 20 half-centuries. In 2021, he scored his first IPL century and in the same year CSK also won the title. He received the Orange Cap and Emerging Player of the Year awards. He had to leave the last season midway due to injury.
Whereas, Sanju Samson played 149 matches for Rajasthan Royals and scored 4027 runs. He has also scored two centuries and 23 half-centuries.
