Key Points:

Questions were raised on Gautam Gambhir after the defeat to South Africa at Eden Gardens, but Robin Uthappa said that it is wrong to blame the coach. He said that players play on the field and decisions should be taken only after seeing the entire situation. Uthappa also termed the criticism leveled on Dravid as wrong.

Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has defended India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir. After India’s defeat against South Africa in three days at Eden Gardens, many fans and experts held Gambhir responsible. Team India was out for just 93 while chasing the small target of 124 runs.

Uthappa defended Gambhir

Uthappa said that the allegations being leveled against Gambhir are wrong. On his YouTube channel, he said that when players enter the field, the coach’s work remains less. Uthappa said, “I saw a comment that I was defending GG (Gautam Gambhir). Man, the coach is playing a little inside.”

He said that people blame the coach only after seeing the results, whereas it is important to understand the entire situation. Uthappa also said that the criticism received by Rahul Dravid was also useless. He said that scoring so many international runs is not easy and if Dravid can be trolled then anyone can be trolled.

India’s poor performance in test

This was India’s ninth defeat in 18 Tests after Gambhir became the coach, due to which questions have increased on his coaching. India is playing well in limited overs at home, but is not getting stability in Test cricket.

India’s batting again looked weak in the Kolkata Test. Even after restricting South Africa to 124, the Indian batsmen could not cope with the spin and irregular bounce. South African captain Temba Bavuma’s fifty-run inning became the only example of correct Test batting.

Amid criticism of the pitch, Gambhir said that India had asked for turning wickets, but the team could not execute the plan. Veterans like Sunil Gavaskar also said that the pitch was not a problem and there have been many such matches in Australia and England where there was not so much noise on the pitch.
