Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav, the current captain of India’s T20 team, will also lead Mumbai in the upcoming 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. According to the report of Indian Express, the Senior Selection Committee of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is going to hold a meeting in this regard soon. Suryakumar has already informed about his availability for the tournament.
Will play domestic cricket before the series against South Africa
Before joining the Indian team, Suryakumar will take the field for Mumbai. Mumbai team will play the first match of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on 26 November in Lucknow. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether Suryakumar plays in the last two league matches to be held on 6th and 8th December or not, because the first match of the T20 International series against South Africa is scheduled on 9th December at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
Mumbai will clash with these teams
Mumbai will play against Railways, Vidarbha, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Odisha in its league matches. The team will enter the field with the intention of defending its title.
The selection committee had to change the plan
At the beginning of the season, MCA had appointed Shardul Thakur as the captain of Ranji Trophy and it was expected that Shreyas Iyer would take charge of the limited overs team, but due to Iyer’s injury during the ODI series against Australia and Suryakumar being available, the selection committee changed the decision and handed over the captaincy of the T20 team to Suryakumar.
