The South Africa captain, Temba Bavuma, has confirmed that pacer Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the 2nd test against India.

The fast bowler who missed the first test in Kolkata due to a rib injury sustained during a training session has not recovered sufficiently to take the field for the final test.

Bavuma said that the medical team was unwilling to risk Rabada’s fitness, especially with his recovery still incomplete. “Kagiso has been ruled out of the second Test,” said Temba Bavuma.

His absence will force the visitors into another reshuffle, having already managed to secure a 30-run win in the first test of the South Africa tour of India 2025.

With Simon Harmer, who picked an eight-wicket haul and Keshav Maharaj leading the spin attack, Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder and Corbin Bosch will be chipping in with fast bowling departments.

“We will have another look in the morning and decide on Kagiso’s replacement,” Bavuma said when asked about the replacement for Kagiso Rabada.

Temba Bavuma also shared his early impressions of the Guwahati surface at the Barsapara stadium, which is hosting a test match for the first time.

“This wicket looks a lot fresher and will be more consistent in terms of variability compared to Kolkata,” Bavuma explained.

He further emphasised that the pitch had the classic characteristics of a sub-continental track.

“The first two days should be good for batting, after which the spinners will come into play.”

Meanwhile, India has also dealt with a major blow as Shubman Gill ruled out of the second test, leaving Rishabh Pant to lead the side for the second test.

With South Africa securing a 1-0 lead in the series, they will be aiming for a win in the upcoming match to seal the series against India.

The second match will be played between November 22 and 26 at Barsapara Cricket StadiumGuwahati.
