Delhi: Due to the absence of regular captain Shubman Gill in the Guwahati Test, star wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant will take charge of Team India. Pant will become the second wicketkeeper batsman after Mahendra Singh Dhoni to captain India in Test cricket.
Before this important match, Shubman Gill was released from the team due to stiff neck problem. Gill felt uncomfortable while batting during the first Test played at Eden Gardens, and later had to be admitted to hospital. After this, the team management handed over the responsibility of captaincy to Pant.
On getting the captaincy, Pant said in the press conference, “Sometimes if you think too much about a big occasion, it backfires. I want to keep things simple, and will do whatever is necessary for the team.”
Pant told that the team management has selected the player to play in place of Gill. However, he did not reveal the name. He said, “We have decided who will play in place of Shubman. The concerned player has been informed about this.”
On his captaincy strategy, Pant said, “I want to create a good balance between traditional thinking and new ideas, the team that plays better cricket will win.”
Praising Shubman Gill, Pant said that Gill was very excited about playing in the match and was trying his best to get fit. Pant said, “Shubman showed resilience even in difficult times and this is the attitude you want to see in team players. I came to know only yesterday evening that I will be the captain in this match.”
