The All India Men's Senior Selection Committee has declared India's squad for the upcoming three-match One-Day International series against South Africa. KL Rahul has been named as the captain, while Ruturaj Gaikwad has replaced the injured captain Shubman Gill in the 15-member squad. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have headlined the batting unit for the upcoming series.
This clarifies that Shubman Gill is not completely fit to take part in the 50-over leg, after missing out in the Guwahati Test as well. He had suffered a neck spasm during the first Test in Kolkata that ruled him out to take any further part in the match. After being hospitalized, the BCCI has now confirmed that Gill will not participate in the ODIs, although an update on the T20I squad is currently awaited.
Notably, the Men in Blue have also welcomed the return of Rishabh Pant in the ODI set-up after the left-handed batter was dropped following the Champions Trophy 2025. He will be featuring in the series as the primary wicketkeeper as well, with Dhruv Jurel acting as a backup. Tilak Varma is another middle-order option with the Indians for this series.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj restedThe all-rounders in the side include the likes of Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy, while Ravindra Jadeja, who was ignored for the ODIs against Australia, has made a comeback as well. The pace attack will be taken care of by Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna, as both Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have been given a repose.

South Africa, meanwhile, have already named their squad, with Temba Bavuma leading the bunch of the Proteas. Earlier in 2023, de Kock had stepped down from ODI cricket after the World Cup that year, also held in India.
