While analyzing the match on Star Sports, Pujara felt that the Indian bowlers gave away too many runs on Day 2 of the Guwahati Test.
Former India player Cheteshwar Pujara noted that the Indian bowlers might feel a bit disappointed with their efforts on Day 2 of the second Test against South Africa. He emphasized that even after dismissing the first six South African wickets for less than 250 runs, the visitors still managed to compile a large total.
On Sunday, November 23, South Africa scored 489 in their first innings in Guwahati, after starting the day at 247/6. By the end of play, India were 9/0 in their first innings, with Yashasvi Jaiswal unbeaten on 7 and KL Rahul on 2 after 6.1 overs. While analyzing the match on Star Sports, Pujara felt that the Indian bowlers gave away too many runs on Day 2 of the Guwahati Test.
“The Indian bowlers worked extremely hard, but the outcome wasn’t in their favor. Naturally, there will be some disappointment in the dressing room given their efforts yesterday. They had taken six wickets for under 250, and even if the remaining four wickets had come for around 100–125 runs, they would still have been satisfied,” the former India batter said.
“However, 489 is too many, particularly considering that many runs came from the last four wickets. If the score had been around 350 on this pitch, the bowling couldn’t have been criticised, but allowing over 450 runs was probably too much, especially after dismissing the top-order batter and taking six wickets on the first day,” he added.
Senuran Muthusamy’s gritty 109 off 206 deliveries and Marco Jansen’s explosive 93 from 91 powered South Africa’s charge on Day 2 in Guwahati. Muthusamy put together an important 88-run stand with Kyle Verreynne and later combined with Jansen for a crucial 97-run alliance that turned the session around.
