KL Rahul to Lead India Squad for South Africa ODIs

The wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul has been named as captain for the India squad for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa, which is set to begin at the end of November.

KL Rahul’s appointment comes in after regular captain Shubman Gill and vice captain Shreyas Iyer have been ruled out of the selection due to injuries. Currently, Shubman Gill is in Mumbai for an assessment of his neck injury.

Gill is currently in Mumbai for an assessment of his neck injury he sustained during the first test of the India tour of South Africa 2025.

Meanwhile, Tilak Varma, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been added to the squad for the upcoming limited-overs game against the Proteas.

On the other hand, Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj have been left out of the squad, while Dhruv Jurel has retained his spot.

The batting line will be bolstered with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who might get an opportunity to add his solitary ODI cap.

With Hardik Pandya unavailable, Nitish Reddy will be in the squad along with three pacers like Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar and Jadeja will make up three spin options. The series kicks off on November 30 in Ranchi before the teams travel to Raipur and Visakhapatnam for the second and third ODIs on December 3 and 6, respectively.

KL Rahul has been given the responsibility to lead the side. Rahul brings a strong record in the ODI format, scoring 3092 runs in 88 games at an average of 48.31 and a strike rate of 88.41.

The first ODI match of the three-match series will be played on November 30 at JSCA International Stadium Complex.
