Meg Lanning Leads the Charge as Stars Shines Bright at Melbourne

An explosive knock from Meg Lanning has set up Melbourne Stars’ 45-run victory against the Renegades in the WBBL 2025 game on November 29 at Junction Oval.

She amassed 73* runs off 58 deliveries, which included seven fours and 1 six, helping the side to post a decent total during the game.

By this win Stars secured top spot in the WBBL 2025 points table. Stars secured five wins out of seven games while one game ended with no result. Batting first, Meg Lanning and Rhys McKenna opened the innings.

Despite losing the wicket of McKenna, Amy Jones and Annabel Sutherland made some decent contributions, helping the side to post 160 runs in a 20-over innings.

Amy Jones scored 43 runs while Annabel Sutherland added 27 runs to the scoreboard. Milly Illingworth picked three wickets, while Georgia Wareham picked two wickets each.

Chasing 161 runs, Melbourne Renegades’ Deandra Dottin and Courtney Webb opened the innings while Marizanne Kapp opened the bowling attack.

Deandra Dottin, Nicole Faltum and Issy Wong did make some crucial contributions, while other batters got dismissed cheaply for single-digit runs.

Deandra Dottin scored 23 runs while, Alice Capsey scored 15 runs. With Nicole Faltum scored 23 runs, Issy Wong scored 20 runs, however the contributions did not make much a difference.

In the 17th over, Melbourne Renegades got bowled out for 115 runs and lost the game by 45 runs.

Maisy Gibson picked three wickets while Kim Garth picked two wickets, with Marizanne Kapp, Sophie Day, Sutherland, and Rhys McKenna completed with 1 wicket.

Meg Lanning was named the player of the match after her impressive knock during the game.

Melbourne Stars secured a comfortable victory in the game and secured top spot in the points table.
