The batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has smashed his maiden ODI century during the second ODI of the South Africa tour of India 2025 on December 03 at Raipur.
His century came off in 77 deliveries, which included 12 fours and 2 sixes while playing along with Virat Kohli. Ruturaj Gaikwad now has the second-fastest ODI hundred for India vs South Africa (77 balls), only behind Yusuf Pathan, who’d got there in 68 balls in Centurion in 2011.
Having played seven ODIs ahead of the ongoing game, he has scored 123 runs with an average of 17.57 and a high score of 71.
With the ton, Ruturaj Gaikwad now has the highest List A average in the world (58.02), surpassing Michael Bevan (57.86). This is his 18th century in List A cricet, with the highest score of 220* for Maharashtra against Uttar Pradesh in 2022.
The series is a comeback for him after playing his last ODI game for India in December 2023.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been impressive with bat since his return to action after his injury during the IPL 2025 season, which ruled him out for remainder of the tournament.
Recently, he featured for India A against South Africa A, where in three matches, he registered scores of 117, 68* and 25.
Despite being dismissed for 8 runs during the first match of the ODI series, he made an impressive return during the game at Raipur. He fell short after scoring 105 runs off 83 deliveries by Marco Jansen.
Virat Kohli followed his Gaikwad with his century helping the side to cross 250+ run mark.
Earlier South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bowl in the 2nd ODI against India. South Africa made three changes in the playing 11, including Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi and Temba Bavuma.
They have replaced Prenelan Subraye, Ryan Rickelton and Ottneil Baartman.
